Wildfire is a growing threat to forests, lives, and property. Population expansion into previously undeveloped areas has placed people, many of whom hail from metropolitan areas, into a fire environment they are unfamiliar with. This has led to disaster, with lives endangered and property destroyed due to natural occurring fires being suppressed and resulting in fuel (decadent brush, dead/dying trees, vegetation) build-up. Wildfires can be ignited by a variety of occurrences (eg. Humans, lightening) and fueled by a variety of environmental factors (e.g tree mortality due to drought.) This year, California has experienced below-average rainfall across the State. This lack of rain has caused California's green grass and vegetation to dry out earlier than expected. When combined with this summer's high temperatures, the dry vegetation will pose an increasing threat for fire danger. Wildfires cost tax payers millions and millions of dollars on an annual basis.
