Welcome to this online Members questionnaire!

We have the opportunity to be involved in two events in July and September 2012, in addition to our routine concerts in the Cathedral.

But before the Committee takes any decision that will commit the choir to these events we need to know how many singers will be able to take part.

June concert in Warwick

We have the opportunity to perform a concert at St Mary’s Collegiate Church, Warwick on the evening of Saturday, 16 June 2012. The programme will include pieces from the BSO concert on 2 June and additional works which will be familiar to most of not all of the choir.

Rehearsals for the additional pieces will be fitted in with those for the BSO concert.

Coach transport will be provided on the day of the concert, leaving Winchester in the morning and returning after the concert. IAlternatively, singers may make their won travel arrangements).

Recording in September

The choir has the opportunity of working with David Owen Norris to make a commercial recording of his 70-minute oratorio "Prayerbook", which was premiered by the Oxford Bach Choir under Nicholas Cleobury in October 2006. The piece is scored for choir and soprano and baritone soloists, plus children's voices and a group of countertenors, with instrumental parts for organ, string quartet, 3 trombones and occasional percussion.

A second performance in 2008 was reviewed in the Church Times: "An inspired performance at St. Mary’s, Andover, by weighty musical forces led by the Andover Choral Society, has revealed the depths and attraction of this work. … astonishing double fugue … most thought-provoking passages … made this expressive cantata feel remarkably like Compline sung at, say, the Edington Festival. There could be no higher compliment."

The recording will take place during a public performance in Romsey Abbey on Friday 14 September. Rehearsals will be on Thursdays 14, 21, 28 June, 5 (and 12?) July and 6 and 11 Sept. There will be a final rehearsal with orchestra in Romsey on 13 September.
