Project Title: Environmental volunteer tourism: Motivation and meaning of the volunteer experience in New Zealand. An Invitation My name is Nobuyuki Fukushima. This is an invitation to participate in a study I am conducting as part of my Masters degree in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at Auckland University of Technology, under the supervision of Dr Alison Booth and Dr Charles Johnston. I am interested in gaining a deeper understanding of what motivates you to participate as a volunteer at ecotourism sites and what you expect to gain from the experience.
What is the purpose of this research? The purpose of this research is to understand and identify volunteer tourists’ motivations and experiences through their participation in ecological conservation projects, in the Auckland region,as a leaisure time activity.
How was I identified and why am I being invited to participate in this research? You are being invited to participate in this research because you have participated as a volunteer at an ecotourism site in the Auckland region. Your experience gained from participating in volunteer activities are important to the central aims of this research.
What will happen in this research? You will be asked to complete an anonymous survey that should take 20 minutes to complete. The results will be analysed and used as primary research for the findings in my study.
What are the discomforts and risks? No discomfort is expected. You have three difffernet options for filling out the survey. Particpation is voluntary.
How will my privacy be protected? All survey material will be handled in a confidential manner. No names will be correlated to the survey answers.
What are the costs of participating in this research? The survey will be expected to take approximately 20 minutes.
