You are being asked to participate in a dissertation research project conducted by Monica Almond, a student in the School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). You are being asked because you are a teacher at Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School (TMA).

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to explore the behaviors and perceptions of the members within this school community, and to determine to what extent that these behaviors are related to the college-going culture of the school.

PARTICIPATION: You will be asked to complete an anonymous survey that asks questions about the overall college-going climate of this school, your beliefs about higher education, and your role here as it pertains to college preparation. I expect the survey to take about 15-20 minutes to complete.

RISKS & BENEFITS: There are no foreseeable risks with your participation in this study. I expect this research to benefit society at large by sharing and replicating your school practices with other urban school communities that struggle to maintain a successful college-going culture.

COMPENSATION: There is no compensation affiliated with this research.

VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION: Please understand that participation is completely voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will in no way affect your current or future relationship with CGU or its faculty, students, or staff, or with TMA. You have the right to withdraw from the research at any time without penalty. You also have the right to refuse to answer any question(s) for any reason, without penalty.

CONFIDENTIALITY: Your individual privacy will be maintained in all publications or presentations resulting form this study. Your responses will be completely anonymous and will be treated in complete confidence. Neither the researcher nor anyone else will know who completed which questionnaire. Your name will not appear anywhere in the final report. All data collected will be kept for a period of five years and will be destroyed through shredding.
