Good day!

We are looking to study behavioral patterns in social situations. The following activity involves reading a vignette and answering a questionnaire, which will require approximately 15 minutes of your time. Your participation is purely voluntary. All of your responses will be kept in strictest confidence and only the researchers directly involved with this project will have access to responses. Please answer the questions with utmost honesty, as there are no right or wrong answers to any of the items. All we would to gain from this activity is your honest and straightforward response to the items.

Thank you for taking the time to assist us in our research!

It’s 3 a.m., and you are with your colleagues in front of the building you are working in. Fifty or so strangers—presumably fellow nightshift workers from the other floors in your building—are nearby, smoking, eating snacks, or hanging out. A young man with a laptop bag is walking across the street. Suddenly, you see two big, tall men walking behind the young man. One of them roughly grabs the young man’s shoulder while the other tries to take his laptop bag. The young man is visibly struggling to get away from them. What will you do?
