Hello:
The USA Patriot Act was enacted 45 days after September 11, 2001. This act was a direct response to the terrorist attacks on that day. Critics of the Patriot Act claim the passage of this law gave too much power to the government and law enforcement. Critics also feel the government has abused this power, while others argue this legislation is necessary to combat terrorism. Congress simply took existing legal principles and retrofitted them to preserve the lives and liberty of the American people from the challenges posed by global terrorist threats. The Freedom Act was passed in 2015 to replace the Patriot Act.
