In this study, we are interested in how personnel decisions related to leadership are made in the workplace.
We would like you to read about a Police Chief, and then evaluate this leader on various work-related behaviors. Please read the descriptions carefully and make thoughtful choices.

Brad has been working at a major metropolitan police department for 15 years. Throughout his tenure, he has risen through the ranks from “Traffic Cop” to Patrol Officer to Deputy Director. Two years ago, he was promoted to be
the Chief of Police. He is responsible for all aspects of the police department, including supervising the police officers working beneath him, communicating with the public and the media about crime in the city, and managing the budget of the Department.

Recently, over 1000 people took to the streets of the city for a protest—which the police department knew about weeks in advance. After a few hours, the protest got out of hand and the police were charged to act. Brad, the chief of police, perceived the severity of the situation and sent patrol officers to the scene immediately. As a result, the protest continued without incident or injury to anyone involved. This outcome occurred in part because the officers where at the right place at the right time.
