Welcome to AWFL 2017!

Last year I tried to duck being the commish after organizing, this year I’m just going to do it.

We’ll be mostly the same in terms of owners, scoring, roster construction, fees ($50), schedule, play-offs, and prizes. But I will tweak some things based on last year, this survey, and most importantly the final number of owners.

We had 12 teams last year and can support a few more or less this year. In large part that depends on draft availability. Despite the conference line and chat rooms, it remains much more efficient to draft together in a war room--or the training room if we can get it. Plus the camaraderie of an in-person draft really gets a season off to a great start.  Therefore in doing league construction I will give preference to in-person owners and then those who will have a sub to those who would be remote or asking another owner to draft for them. There will be no auto-drafters.

And we’re off!

We didn’t finish the draft live last year, rather needed aweek of follow-up email. An idea to avoid that is to shorten the initial draftand then fill out our team using waivers over the first quarter of the season.Essentially, instead of drafting 16 player we’ll draft to ~12. That will giveus plenty of room to fill-out a week 1 starting line-up, but shave an hour orso off the draft. Then after each of the first four weeks I will increase theroster size by 1.

Do you, basically, like this idea?

* The league fee is $50 to be paid before the draft. I refuse to chase player around during the season or in order to make payouts. If you do not pay before the draft you will not participate in the draft.

Please acknowledge.

Got it. I'm in. How do I pay?

I decline the invitation.

The intention is to have an in-person draft after work. We can support a call-in, but the strong preference if for face-to-face and substitutes to minimize technical issues and keep the draft rolling.
